Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles has announced that the state Department of Agriculture (KDA) is now accepting grower and processor applications for its 2022 growing season.

"The nation’s hemp industry continues to face challenging headwinds, including continued regulatory inaction by the Food and Drug Administration toward cannabinoids,” Quarles said in a press release. “As we enter the ninth growing season, we encourage all hemp growers and processors to carefully consider all of the factors in this industry."

New grower applications and renewals must be submitted by March 15, 2022, but new processor and handler applications can be submitted year-round. Additionally, “annual processor/handler license renewals must be submitted by Dec. 31," the release states.

All individuals and businesses looking to apply for a grower or handler/processor license can do so for no charge through the KDA’s online licensing portal. Paper applications are also available but require a $200 service charge.
